Leveraging repetetion & re-use creates impressive results in 3D scenes. In this series we explore the notion of 'tilesets' and modular construction as a way to multiply your 3D effort. These techniques are traditionally used by other disciplines such as 3D environment artists, but can be modified to work wonders for 2D artists. In this series I explore the high-level concepts, and walk you through the creation of two assets: a prop, and a multi-tier interior space. Though I'm demonstrating with Modo 3D, these concepts apply to any 3d software (including Sketchup & the free Blender 3D).
If you want to envision huge, complex, spaces, “Modular Design” is a great followup to “Texture”.
